Why is it worth making homemade apple cider vinegar?

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is much easier to prepare than you might think. And it’s really cheap, by the way. Of course, we can buy a finished product in stores. But be careful!

How to make homemade apple cider vinegar?

Step 1.  Squeeze the juice out of the apples

  • Try to pick apples that are sweet, with no traces of bumps or mold. If possible, look for organic apples that have not been sprayed with pesticides and other chemical products as they affect their fermentation.
  • Wash them thoroughly, peel them and hollow the seeds out of them. Then squeeze out the juice. You need about a liter of juice.

Step 2. Fermentation

  • Pour the squeezed juice into a glass or clay container. The wider the better as you need to fill it halfway down. Only then will the fermentation be correct. Close the container tightly (for example with a balloon), preventing the access of oxygen.
  • Suitable temperature is 18 – 20 degrees Celsius.
  • Fermentation takes 4 to 6 weeks.
  • The key to achieving perfect vinegar is the sugar in apples. That is why it is so important that they are appropriately sweet. If your apples aren’t, you can add some sugar to the juice.
  • If you want to speed up the fermentation process , you can leave some skin in place before juicing.
  • To go to the next step, pour the prepared must into another container.

Step 3. We turn the must into apple cider vinegar

  • Pour the must into a wide dish and leave it in a warm place (for example, by a radiator or in the sun) for the next 3 days. Remember to cover the container with a clean cloth.
  • After 3 days, remove the cloth and try to keep the vessel at a constant temperature. About 20 degrees.  A sudden change in temperature can ruin everything.
  • We mix it once a day. In this way, we will preserve the sheepskin that is formed on the surface.
  • When our homemade apple cider vinegar is ready, strain it and store it in a dark place. Sunlight is not very good for him.
  • We managed to prepare organic apple cider vinegar without chemicals and with all healing properties!
