Orange sponge cake - a delicious homemade recipe

If the orange sponge cake stands out in particular with something, it is undoubtedly its exceptional versatility. Basically, this is due to the fact that it is a dessert that offers many possibilities in terms of type and combination of preparation.

Indeed, orange sponge cake is such a popular recipe that a way to prepare it in the microwave within 5 minutes has already been discovered.

The ease of this recipe is associated with the famous yogurt scoop. This is because the size of the dough cup is similar to a cup or a yoghurt container. Our orange sponge cake has many more advantages as a dessert. For example:

  • It is a cake that remains as plump and tasty for a few days as it was on the first day.
  • It can be served cold, but also hot, right after preparation, if made with chocolate.

The ideal thing is to bake them in a square or rectangular form, especially if we have a special mold for this type of cake.

  • Of course, as mentioned before, they can be made by using a yoghurt cup or whatever glass we use to drink water as a measuring cup.
  • Of course, we must remember that the quantities of ingredients will not be the same then.

Orange sponge cake step by step

Let’s see how easy it is to make a sponge cake at home and in just 5 minutes. In addition, this recipe is suitable for any type of cake.

This means that you just have to replace the ingredient that gives the flavor with a different flavor as you like. In this case, we can replace the orange flavor with lemon or chocolate flavor.

Sponge cake in a mold.

Ingredients

  • Natural yoghurt (125 g).
  • 3 eggs
  • Flour (3 scoops of yogurt).
  • Sugar (2 scoops of yogurt).
  • 1 large orange
  • Olive oil or oil (1 scoop of yogurt).
  • 1 packet of baking powder.
  • Butter to grease the mold or baking paper.

Depending on the desired intensity of the flavor, we can use a more delicate oil or an olive with a stronger flavor. It depends on individual taste.

Orange sponge cake – preparation

  • First, empty the yogurt cup. We will need it later so be sure to pour it into another container. The yoghurt container will serve as a universal ingredient scoop for our orange sponge cake.
  • You should also preheat the oven for about 10 minutes to 180 ° C.
  • Then grate the orange peel until only the white part is left.
  • Then peel the orange completely and crush the pieces in a separate bowl.
  • In the same bowl, add sugar, eggs, yogurt, orange zest, and oil. Blend all these ingredients with a blender until you get a smooth and uniform mass.
  • It’s time to add flour and baking powder. Of course, you need to sift these ingredients before adding them.
Cake decoration.

Let’s continue …

  • Butter a cake tin with your finger or brush, or line it with baking paper. This simple step ensures that the dough will not stick to the mold and will not burn. Baking paper is a great solution because the mold will hardly even get dirty.
  • Pour the dough into the mold and place in the oven at medium height. Orange sponge cake should be baked at 180 ° C for about 35 minutes. Remember that irregular shapes should stay in the oven 5 or 10 minutes longer than rectangular ones.
  • Now do a toothpick test to know if the sponge cake is ready. Use a toothpick to prick the dough, and if it comes out without the bits sticking to it, the dough is ready. If not, leave it for a few more minutes.
  • Finally, remove the cake from the oven. Before you take them out of the mold, it needs to cool a little so that it does not fall apart.
  • Now all that remains is to serve the orange sponge cake and enjoy its excellent taste.

Decoration

Candied oranges can be used to decorate this sponge cake (if you are going to serve it for a special occasion). They will look great arranged fancifully over the entire surface of an orange sponge cake. How to make them? Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 or 2 oranges
  • 4 glasses of water (1 liter).
  • 5 cups of sugar (1 kg).

Preparation

  • If you want to caramelize them afterwards, put the candied oranges in the oven for 5 minutes before removing the orange sponge cake.

As you can see, it is very easy to make this cake. Remember that you can change the orange flavor to chocolate or lemon if you prefer.

  • You have to do the same with the lemon as with the orange: peeling the lemon and then grinding it.
  • For chocolate, just warm it up a little in a water bath before whipping it with the dough to make it easier to mix.
  • You can also add honey to your biscuits.
